SAMUEL REMINGTON (1819-1892). First son of Eliphalet Remington, founder of Remington Rifles. Business exploded during the American Civil War, continuing into WWI & WWII. His business, now known as Remington Arms, later manufactured velocipedes (early bicycles), burglar alarms, gasoline-powered engines, and typewriters.

Signed Check. Handsome Vignette of a blacksmith at his anvil at left, Cashier of Ilion Bank Check made out & signed in black fountain pen: “S. Remington”, 7″ x 2 3/8″. Ilion, New York. March 30 1853. The check, Numbered 12 is made out for $8.00 & is Cut cancelled as ALL checks of that period were(no evidence of this unless one wiggles the [paper] check).
