Autograph Manuscript Signed, on an approximate 3.5 in. by 4.5 in. on heavy paper, being the first stanza of his seminal work, America, noting the date he composed the hymn (February 1832) and the year he wrote this manuscript (November 1885). Reads in full:

“My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty
Of thee I sing;
Land where my father’s died,
Land of the pilgrim’s pride,
From every mountain side
Let freedom ring.
F. S. Smith.”.
