RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON (1913-1994). 37th President of the United States (1969-1974), Vice President (1953-1961). He is the only man to have been elected twice to the Vice Presidency and twice to the Presidency, and he was the fifth Republican President to be elected to two terms. Nixon is noted for his diplomatic foreign policy and moderate domestic policy, but he is also remembered as the first and only U.S. President to have resigned from office. His resignation came after a loss of political support in the Congress amidst the Watergate scandal.
GERALD R. FORD (1913-2006) 38th President of the United States and 40th Vice President. Ford was the first person appointed to the vice presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment. Upon succession to the presidency, Ford became the only person to hold that office without having been elected either President or Vice President. Prior to becoming Vice President, he served for over eight years as the Republican Minority Leader of the House of Representatives as a representative from Michigan’s 5th congressional district.
Real Peace: a strategy for the West, by Richard Nixon. Privately printed, New York, 1983. First Edition, First Printing. No publisher or ISBN. Near Fine condition, as there is ever so slight wear to the base of the blue cloth-covered boards & the spine. Dust jacket, covered in mylar, has SLIGHT bump wear at the bottom edges & at the base of the spine. This UNREAD copy is tight, crisp & clean. Richard Nixon has signed on the bottom portion of the half title page & adding the date: 1-21-86 in blue/black fountain pen.
It is the inscription that is the EXTRAORDINARY half of this Presidential duo. Nixon wrote, To L. L. King with best wishes from Richard Nixon. Gerald R. Ford has signed & dated, 4/18/94 on the top half of the page in blue sharpie. Those who were not aware that Gerald R. Ford was born with his biological father’s name, Leslie Lynch King, will realize that this was the person to whom Nixon was inscribing his book. The very same person, Nixon’s Vice President, later his successor, signed the name he took from his step father and used throughout his life as Congressman, Vice President and finally President, Gerald R. Ford! What an incredible Presidential momento! Almost certainly the ONLY ONE IN EXISTENCE! $5,500.00
