PETE BEST (b. 1941). A British musician best known as the original drummer for The Beatles. He first joined the band in 1959, and later rejoined for their 1960–61, residency in Hamburg. He was fired in 1962 to be replaced by Ringo Starr. When the band adopted the Beatle haircut, Best did not follow suit, and it was rumored that the band felt Best did not fit in.
