LAURENCE TIBBETT (1896-1960). American Opera Singer, acknowledged as one of the greatest American male singers of opera in his day. His Hollywood career was brief, although he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his first film, The Rogue Song, in 1930. He became one of the leading baritones of his era at the Metropolitan Opera, specializing in Verdi roles, notably Ford in Falstaff (opera) and Iago in Othello. He created leading roles in a number of American operas, including Louis Gruenberg’s The Emperor Jones, based on Eugene O’Neill’s play which he sang in blackface.
His Vintage Signature on sturdy off-white stock, 2.5″x 3.5″ signed in black ink adding Sincerely. An excellent clean, clear example from the early 1930′s, complete with the envelope in which it was sent to the original owner. $35.00
