JOHN WANAMAKER (1838-1922). U.S. merchant, government official. Co-founder of Oak Hall, an early Philadelphia clothing store (1861); founded a men’s store bearing his name (1869), converting it into a department store in 1877. He served as Postmaster General (1889-1893).
Autograph Quote Signed, his credo, written in his hand in black ink on his oversized calling card, 3.75″x5.25″, w/his name imprinted at the top, dated May21, 1898 & signed in his Trade Mark Signature. “The world is a willing wheelbarrow if you push it.” There are diagonal tape marks, none of them affecting any of the writing and can be easily matted out.
