JOHN SHERMAN (1823-1900). American Statesman, Congressman from Ohio (1855-61) & Senator (1861-67). He vigorously supported measures for prosecution of Civil War & for Reconstruction of the South. U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1877-81), author of the Sherman Antitrust Act (1890). U.S. Secretary of State (1897-98). Brother of General William Tecumseh Sherman.

His crisp, clear signature is on sturdy ecru stock, with the addition of Ohio in his hand. This cut is excellent for framing in conjunction with a portrait or etching of Sherman.
