Joan (Geraldine) Bennett (1910–1990). American stage, film and television actress. In addition to acting on the stage, Bennett appeared in more than 70 motion pictures from the era of silent movies through the 1940′s.
After Bennett dyed her blonde hair dark (brown/black) for plot purposes, her audiences approved and Bennett thrived throughout the next decade in a wide variety of “dark” roles befitting her brunette status. She is possibly best-remembered for her film noir femme fatale roles in director Fritz Lang’s movies such as The Woman in the Window (1944) and Scarlet Street (1945). Bennett’s professional life continued on both stage and screen plus her television work on the 1959 sitcom Too Young to Go Steady and the “gothic” soap opera Dark Shadows (1965-1971).
